61. Cultivating a mindfulness practice for your dating life with Upasna Gautam

Join me for a conversation with my guest, Upasna Gautam, as we explore what it means to bring mindfulness into your dating life for lasting impact and peace.  And yes, it’s hard to know what mindfulness is, oftentimes, until you find a way to work it into your daily life.

Upasna is a meditation and mindfulness teacher, Product Manager at CNN, TedX fellow, Zumba instructor, world traveler, polyglot, and avid hiker. During our conversation, she offers mindfulness and meditation practices she uses in her active life. My hope is that you’ll come away from this episode with a new perspective on mindfulness and ways you can easily incorporate it into your life too.

Here’s a breakdown of today’s episode:

  • Mindfulness does not mean one specific thing.

  • Upsana recollects about her awakening from a string of bad relationships and how mindfulness impacted her dating life.

  • The importance of knowing what you are a “No to,” in dating.

  • Being equanimous with yourself and everything around you.

  • What being balanced actually means (and what it does not mean, too).

  • Mindfulness is being deeply aware of your present moment, how you are feeling, and the thoughts that are occurring.

  • Meditation does not need to be practiced while sitting down and closing your eyes - there can be motion in meditation.
